Irish thrash metal band Gama Bomb (L-R): Domo Dixon, Joe McGuigan, Philly Byrne, John 'JR' Roche, Chris Williams

“GAMA BOMB HAVE GONE FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH, AMASSING A SIGNIFICANT GLOBAL FOLLOWING.”

Over the course of two decades, Irish five-piece GAMA BOMB have become one of the most distinctive and best-loved bands in the world of thrash and metal.

Formed in Newry, Northern Ireland, in 2002, the band has released eight studio albums, touring alongside luminaries such as Sepultura, and reaching the Billboard Charts.

Known for their smart and playful approach, GAMA BOMB are credited with inspiring a new generation of thrash bands growing up in the wake of Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer, ‘the big four’ of the 1980s.

“When we discovered thrash it was like discovering an abandoned fairground,” says frontman Philly Byrne. “It was not a heard-of genre. It was dead. Totally dead.”

In 2009 they pioneered the idea of streaming when Tales From The Grave In Space became one of the first albums to be released as a free download by a band signed to a record label.

In SURVIVAL OF THE FASTEST, they share the joys of being an internationally-touring group while showing the challenges and hurdles faced by independent artists in the present day.

From the earliest glow of Northern Ireland’s Peace Process to Tokyo, London, Dublin and beyond, SURVIVAL OF THE FASTEST is an unexpected adventure with a group of friends trying to keep the show on the road.
